JANUARY NEWS!!
Wishing everyone a happy 2012! Welcome back to school. I hope the break was a good chance to get rejuvenated and enjoy some family time!
An enormous and heartfelt "THANK YOU" to everyone for all of the generous classroom donations/supplies, as well as the fabulous gift certificate to REI!!! I am so excited to treat myself to something new!!
January will be a busy month. Please be sure to look at the calendar for all of the happenings this month!
We will be focusing heavily on memorizing multiplication facts this month. I am sending home with each student a clear sheet protector with fact practice sheets. Using a dry erase pen and timing them for 5 minutes is a great way to commit those facts to memory. I have also given each student a packet of fact worksheets, puzzles, and games. Packets must be completed and turned in by Wednesday, January 25. They can work on them at school and/or at home.
This month our reading will focus on biographies. Each student has been assigned a person of importance to learn/read about. Last week your children brought home a project packet that will help them in preparation for our "Famous Persons Exhibition" in February. With the goal of having time to fine tune their presentations before they do them for the school community, I would like students to present their famous person to the class. We will begin our in-class presentations on January 31.
In Language Arts and Writing we will focus on grammar and the eight parts of speech in January. Grammar is a bit of a lost skill and is such an important part of the learning process. It would be great if you can donate any old magazines to the class so that we can cut them up for an "Eight Parts of Speech" Project.
Last week, in the Friday Folder, I sent home Scholastic Book Orders. If you would like to order any books, please return order forms to class by Wednesday, January 18th.
Don't forget to sell those Travel Clean car was cards! It is a great fundraiser!
